Which pets have left paw prints on your heart?

“So many pets of all shapes and sizes have left paw prints on my heart. Forest is my most recent fur baby. He is an 8 year old, gentle, loving, giant breed – ‘Westminster Wanderer?!’ He’s a mix breed who was found wandering the streets of Westminster at around 12 weeks of age and was brought in to Balcatta Vet Emergency where I was working at the time. I became a bit smitten and after advertising for his owners unsuccessfully, he adopted me and we’ve stuck together ever since”.

Why did you become a vet and what do you enjoy most about your job?

“I grew up catching frogs, playing with my dog, raising wildlife and riding horses. When I became a foster carer for abandoned kittens I knew I had my career picked out. 17 years ago I started studying the course and I tell all the students I would do it again tomorrow. Besides, who wouldn’t want to work with animals and people all day? I am living the dream!

My favourite thing about being a Vet is making old pets feel young again. There is sooo much that we can do for these silent sufferers. Hearing clients tell me how much difference their pets treatment plan has made and watching the previously hobbling old cat or dog jump and bound around the consult room is an amazing feeling!”

How do you relax when you’re not at work?

“In my spare time?!……..hahahahahahahaha. I have 3 kids!” I do like spending quality time with my husband and my kids, we don’t get a lot of it, so it’s really important! Mini family getaways are the best!

I also really enjoy keeping physically busy at it means I can get ahead in the family fitbit challenge I have ongoing with my mum and sister”.
